The client is seeking temporary technical support staff to assist with tasks related to testing and measurement of conventional and superconducting magnets, for an estimated period of one (1) year.
We are seeking an individual to assist with the following projects and operational efforts:
Mu2e Magnet Instrumentation
Mu2e Transfer Line Instrumentation
High Field Magnet Instrumentation
LHC High Luminosity Upgrade Instrumentation
Magnet Measurement System Instrumentation
Equipment Maintenance and Calibration.
Working with limited supervision by, and in coordination with other technicians, engineers, and managers, the individual will perform the following tasks, listed in order of priority and volume:
Following written and verbal direction, assemble and test large numbers of custom electronic modules, wiring circuit boards, mounting front panels, building housings, backplanes and chassis, and document this work. (many each of DQDs, AQDs, HFUs, QLM/PSIMs, Current Distribution, PS Regulation, Signal Conditioners, Digital Integrators, other)
Following oral instruction and written procedures, prepare and test shielded wire bundles to be used in instrumentation assemblies, and document this work.
Following drawings and electrical schematics, oral instruction and written procedures, deploy custom and commercial electronic instrumentation and cable assemblies to instrumentation racks; make up and test interconnections, and document this work.
Following drawings and written procedures, assemble, install, and test a variety of magnet sensors with properly shielded and terminated wiring, and document this work.
Following drawings and written procedures, utilize diagnostic equipment to perform electrical checkout of test and instrumentation systems, probes, and sensors used for magnet protection, monitoring, and measurements; review and analyze checkout data, make modifications or repairs as needed, and document this work.
With engineering oversight, develop new or modify existing electrical schematics, drawings, and procedures on an as-needed basis.
Following written procedures, perform calibrations of instruments and equipment used in magnet test and measurement systems, and document this work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities consistent with the client Technician II job description: HS degree plus at least 4 years general experience
Must have the ability to read and interpret circuit schematics, manufacturers’ manuals (or similar documents), and work with written or verbal instructions and sketches
Experience using modern electronic instrumentation and diagnostic equipment is required
At least two years of practical experience working with analog and digital electronics, circuit board wiring and testing is strongly desired.
Ability to install, solder, and inspect small components and fine wires (sensors, connectors, voltage taps, etc.) is strongly desired
Experience drawing with AutoCAD is a plus
Familiarity with the safe use of hand-held power tools and hand tools is desired
Familiarity with Windows PC environment and experience using MS Word and Excel applications is desired
Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills is desired
Ability to work occasional overtime is desirable
