Job Description


Nuclear Medicine Tech

Duties

Under minimal supervision performs nuclear medicine procedures as requested by a physician to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performs any combination of the following duties depending on the area of assignment. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
Performs other duties as assigned.
1. Performs nuclear medicine procedures by administering radiopharmaceuticals, IV and PO for concentration in specific areas of the body, under supervision of a physician. Performs imaging procedures of specific body areas by using gamma cameras and computer analysis. Completes necessary documentation.
2. Cares for patients during procedures by assisting them to rest rooms, giving them blankets, etc. Prepares patients for their exams.
3. Reports changes in the patient's condition to others for follow-up.
4. Transports patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, or walking. Provides care for patients during transportation and in the department, if necessary.
5. Assists patients by lifting and moving them off and on imaging tables. Provides bedpans and urinals as needed. Assures that patients are properly dressed for their procedures.
6. Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assists others, and special assignments. Cleans work area and replenishes supplies.
7. Assists with emergency medical treatment under physician direction.
8. Assists with the scheduling of patient exams.
9. Attends regularly scheduled department meetings and in-services.
10. Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials and calculates doses.
11. Calibrates equipment.
12. Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
13. Work locations may include one or more outpatient imaging facilities.
14. Performs other duties as assigned. Experience: At least one (1) year experience as a licensed technologist.

Certifications & Licenses
REQUIRED:

Current California Nuclear Medicine license (RHN)
National Certification (CNMT) or ARRT (N)
Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards

Valid Driver’s License
Radiation Badge - Facility does NOT provide

Education
REQUIRED: Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Training Program

Experience: At least one (1) year experience as a licensed technologist
Certification: BLS - AHA National Certification (CNMT) or ARRT

Education REQUIRED: Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Training Program

Shift: Days 8/40
