Summary:
The main function of a chemist is to conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses in laboratories for quality, process control or to develop new products or knowledge. A typical chemist is responsible for creating new products and processes or improving existing ones for clients.

Job Responsibilities:
Analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships and reactions.
Improve and customize products, equipment, formulas, processes and analytical methods.
Compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions.
Adhere to production flow model.
Prepare test solutions, compounds and reagents for laboratory personnel to conduct tests.
Confer with scientists and engineers to conduct analyses of research projects and assist in the interpretation of test results.

Skills:
Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
Previous manufacturing experience or knowledge of product flow principles.
Basic ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related discipline required or 3+ years of manufacturing and production experience.
Previous work experience required.

Typical task breakdown:
Technician is responsible for analyzing approximately 850-1400 samples following quality control procedures provided. Will be responsible for keeping multiple instruments loaded, operating instruments, reviewing data, reporting data and performing maintenance on instruments as well as logging sample information into LIMS. This position is in the lab and requires being able to work on feet for 8 hours and lift 35 pounds periodically through the day. This position offers respirator training; candidate must be able to pass necessary physical screening and be clean shaven.

Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
This position creates quality, timely data that is used by customers to make equipment management decisions. Position directly supports customers and enhances customer loyalty.

Work environment:
Laboratory that provides fluid analysis services. Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, lab coat provided by the client.

Education & Experience Required:
High School Diploma or GED Required.
3 years of manufacturing/factory/operations experience or
3 years of lab experience (example background: Pharmaceutical tech)

Ability to lift at least 35 pounds
Understanding of good laboratory practices,
Strong computer skills
