Description :CHIEF THERAPISTEXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:(Depending on the area of assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)Plans, organizes, develops, administers and evaluates a program of physical and occupational therapy in medical therapy units; schedules staff conferences.Provides liaison between the therapy program and the Program Chief, the program's medical consultant, the program's administrative staff, State consultants and community agencies.Develops, establishes and maintains therapy program policies and procedures to maintain conformance with State mandates and guidelines; provides school administrators with interpretation of the therapy program's compliance with Federal and State statutes and health and safety codes.Interviews and selects subordinate coordinating and supervising therapists, evaluates their performance and provides them with administrative and technical assistance.Determines staffing needs on a County wide basis; determines need for and develops, in coordination with local education agencies and the State funding agency, plans for new medical therapy units and satellite therapy units.Administers a program for staff in-service training; confers with the program's medical consultant to determine applicants' eligibility for therapy treatments.Reviews prescriptions and justifications for equipment, appliances and from physicians for children participating in the therapy program and authorizes their use as directed by the program's medical consultant; visits medical therapy units Countywide.RECRUITING GUIDELINES:Experience: Four years of experience, at least two of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity in pediatrics, as a licensed Occupational Therapist or a licensed Physical Therapist.Knowledge of: Therapeutic techniques, activities and equipment used in occupational or physical therapy work with particular emphasis on the physical and psychological problems of children with cerebral palsy; growth and development of children; skeletal anatomy;kinesiology, neurology and the objectives of occupational or physical therapy treatment. Ability to: Plan, organize, administer and evaluate a program of physical and occupational therapy for physically handicapped children; direct the work of subordinate supervising and coordinating therapists; explain or teach therapy treatments to therapists, parents, school personnel, other agencies, children, and the public; apply occupational or physical therapy techniques in observing, testing and evaluating patients; explain occupational or physical therapy treatments to physically handicapped children; deal effectively with handicapped children and their parents; prepare reports and manages records of case histories.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:License/Certificate: Current licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist through the Board of Occupational Therapy with the client state, or as a licensed Physical Therapist with the Physical Therapy Board of the client's state.License/Certificate: Possession of a valid client's state Driver's License may be required at the time of hire.VIVA is an equal opportunity employer.
