Job Description

Description:

This Machinist supports Aero shop and Machine shop in running large CNC/Manual lathes, CNC/Manual VTL’s, and CNC/Manual Mills, holding tight tolerances meeting OEM requirements and specifications. Read and interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements for the Gas turbine, Steam turbine, and Aero components.

As a CNC/Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for:
Supporting safety culture and driving a safe to start mindset
Aligning large rotors, gas components, and parts within tight tolerances for machining, grinding, and runout corrections
Programing CNC lathes, VTL’s, and milling machines
Reading and interpreting documents such as OEM drawings, REI’s, Work Instructions, and Digital Routers.
Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD & T). Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
Calculating and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Starting and observing machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls as required.
Selecting, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders

Responsibilities / Tasks of the Role

Promote a strong safety culture by modeling safe-to-start practices and ensuring all tasks follow established safety protocols
Align large rotors, gas components, and related parts within tight tolerances for machining, grinding, and runout correction
Program CNC lathes, vertical turning lathes (VTLs), and milling machines for precision machining operations
Read and interpret OEM drawings, REIs, work instructions, and digital routers to execute machining tasks accurately
Apply working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), along with basic algebra and geometry, to ensure precision
Calculate and set machine controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, depth of cut, and cutting angles, or input/edit CNC programs as needed
Start and monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, making adjustments to maintain quality
Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment

To be successful in this role you will:
Have High School Diploma or equivalent. 10+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrate advanced / expert skill level (indicate part, turn OD's, turn ID’s, Grinding and burnishing on; CNC mill, CNC lathe, and NC (figure feed rates), Manual mill, Manual lathe and Manual VTL
Supporting Rotor shop and Machine shop based on customer needs. Steam rotors, Gas rotors, Cases, Gas components, Aero components, and Value rack repairs.
Have ability to operate Manual machines as well as CNC machines
Experience in Gas turbine repair (HSPT, GE10's, Fr3, Fr5, Fr6, and F7) Rotors and component machining is a big plus
