Construction Manager
The Construction Manager functionally reports to the Project Manager and is accountable for capital project’s construction execution. The Construction Manager will lead the site construction team for completion of construction activities in accordance with project objectives, priorities, contracts, and ensure adherence to engineering construction plans and specifications. Success is measured by safety performance, predictable project construction cost, schedule compliance, and quality assurance of facilities and processes.
Responsibilities
Serve as the on-site point of contact for assigned contractor site management.
Promote safety awareness and safe performance among site team members, including consultants, contractors and subcontractor personnel.
Oversee safety compliance including site orientation, work permits, job safety analyses, toolbox meetings, audits, and HSES events.
Review daily Safe Work Permit and execute as the permit issuer. The client to provide two week training.
Manage interfaces/interactions with contractors/vendors and other project functional groups (e.g., design, commissioning, operations, etc.) regarding construction issues.
Coordinate input to and review development of contractor’s detailed job plans to complete the work.
Keep Project Manager(s) advised of progress, performance, initiatives, issues, challenges, change requests, and anticipated completion dates for construction milestones. Proactively develop plans to mitigate potential issues.
Administer the execution of the contract, including interpretations to the contract.
Review change requests and change assessments in accordance with management of the change plan.
Perform a review and endorse contractor invoices, as appropriate.
Verify physical progress, provide project schedule updates, and proactively manage a 2 and 4 week look-ahead plan with contractors.
Manage weekly construction update meetings.
Manage and maintain requests for information (RFI’s) from the contractors and maintain a RFI log.
Perform quality assurance through mechanical completion and turnover to the commissioning and testing team.
Collect and turn over as-built deliverable redlines to the owner.
Assist with the Ready for Startup Review (RFSR) process.
Perform material management of the client purchased equipment and material and issue to site contractors.
Communicate daily construction plans at site meetings.
Evaluate and coordinate necessary plant or system shutdowns with engineering and operations.
Manage and close out post construction punch list items.
Support commissioning and startup activities with the engineering team through plan reviews, field changes and progress tracking.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the company, project, or contract.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Engineering Degree or demonstrated equivalent competency through construction work experience. Electrical Engineering or work experience preferred.
10+ years of demonstrated construction management and execution experience in managing capital projects in the specialty chemical or similar industry
Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics, P&IDs, electrical single lines and construction drawings.
OSHA 40-Hour Training and working knowledge of General Industry and Construction Training per OSHA CFR Part 1926 is a plus.
Owner signoff on project safety plans, work permits and risk identification/ mitigation strategies.
Knowledge of building codes, consensus engineering standards and applicable regulations (ASME, API, CGA, NFPA, OSHA).
Fluent in the use of MS Office Suite, including MS Project.
Effective verbal and written communication. Must be collaborative and comfortable working in a team environment.
Working knowledge of high purity gas installation and practices is a plus.
Highest Level of Education Required for this Position:
Engineering Degree or demonstrated equivalent competency through construction work experience and Construction Industry certifications.
