Job Description

Description of Services & Deliverables

Database Administrator responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:

Management and administration of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database software and databases;
Installing, configuring, patching and maintaining Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database software and databases;
Ensuring the availability, integrity and security of database data;
Providing database backup and recovery services;
Developing and maintaining utility programs, scripts and routines for management of database systems on Red Hat LINUX and Windows server systems;
Providing network support services for database-related network technologies and adapters such as TNS, ODBC, JDBC, OLEDB and .Net; and
Assisting in the establishment and enforcement of database administration policies, standards and procedures.
Collaborating with business experts to develop and document database infrastructure or design requirements;
Performing database design, data modeling and data administration;
Developing and documenting data standards
Maintaining the enterprise data dictionary and model repository;
Utilizing data administration tools to construct data profiles, perform data analysis and provide data cleansing recommendations;
Providing support, diagnostic, troubleshooting and resolution of web-based and client server software applications in a distributed computer systems environment;
Project planning related to maintenance and lifecycle management for multiple distributed systems;
Administration and support for multiple statewide applications; and


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Oracle and MySQL data base management technologies in UNIX/LINUX operating system environment;
Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server in a Windows operating system environment;
Knowledge of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL internals, data structures, and memory management;
Knowledge of Oracle network connectivity;
Knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL languages;
Knowledge of UNIX/LINUX operating system and commands;
Knowledge of Microsoft Server operating system and commands;
Knowledge of computer programming, systems analysis and systems design principles and practices;
Experience installing and maintaining Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL software and databases;
Experience designing, developing, testing, documenting and implementing database backup and recovery procedures;
Experience performing database backup and recovery processes for Oracle using RMAN;
Experience performing database backup and recovery processes for Microsoft SQL Server;
Experience configuring data base parameters for performance tuning;
Experience developing, testing, documenting and implementing SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, UNIX/LINUX shell scripts and Windows operating system BAT orCMD shell scripts;
Ability to use critical thinking skills and problem solve;
Ability to work independently;
Ability to create logical, well-written standards and procedures related to database design and database administration;
Ability to write, code, test, debug, and review computer programs and stored procedures;
Ability to process information logically and solve problems;
Ability to identify and define user requirements;
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;

Preferred Experience:

8 years of experience working with Oracle RDBMS software and databases (version 11g or more recent)
8 years of experience developing SQL, PL/SQL scripts, procedures, functions and packages
5 years of experience planning, developing and executing data conversion/migration plans, processes and programs
Experience facilitating analysis sessions with business clients
Experience presenting technical subject matter reviews or seminars to business clients
Experience designing and executing quality control and test procedures

The Database Administrator will report to the designated client supervisor, and is expected to perform the tasks and specific assignments given by the client supervisor.
