Job Description
Database Engineer to support configuration, development and maintenance of intranet, business intelligence and data warehousing, enterprise database management, and corporate website.
Duties include:
Support production and non-production SQL Server databases, including debugging and fixing issues affecting performance of SQL servers and supporting database administration requests such as creating users/login, database backup and restore, and creating SQL server objects (stored procedures, tables);
Create SSIS packages for performing Extraction Transfer Load (ETL) using variety of data sources (MS Access, MS Excel, and Oracle etc.);
Proactively manage disk space for database servers, including modifying backup policies, performing tasks like shrinking database files to free up disk space;
Monitor, diagnose, and respond to system failure and performance issues, taking measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence;
Work with client technical staff, including network engineers and software developers, to analyze and improve system performance;
Implement and monitor daily, nightly and weekly database maintenance;
Create and maintain documentation required to correct production issues, including formulate and implement backup policies for all production databases, and provide technical support for any database server performance or access issues;
Generate reports defining metrics for database health and performance;
Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of production database servers;
Perform or affect the performance of all SQL Server installations, patches, and planned upgrades;
Implement data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes.
Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other database issues;
Perform database development as dictated by departmental or project demands.
Install, configure, and administer Reporting services 2005 and 2008 R2.
Apply knowledge of SharePoint applications and their database performance profiles.
Plan and perform data migrations and data transformations.
Develop and maintain documentation, diagrams, and procedures consistent with company’s change management control process and industry best practices.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field plus 2 years of experience in database administration including SQL and SharePoint. Experience must include 2 years in each of the following:
Database administration with SQL server 2005 or 2008 R2.
SQL Server Management Studio.
Database design and development, triggers, views.
Reviewing, writing, debugging, tuning SQL code.
Developing of SQL scripts for stored procedures and functions.
Experience with physical database characteristics (table design, relationships, data partition, efficient indexes, storage allocation capacity planning).
Experience in performance tuning and load testing of databases.
Knowledge of database security concepts.
Working with SQL server Reporting Services, SQL Server Integration Services.
Working with SharePoint Databases.
Experience utilizing Microsoft Visio, CA Erwin, Idera SQL diagnostic manager, Idera SQL Safe, Business Intelligence Development Studio, SQL Profiler.
Occasional on-call rotation.
