Position Overview


Providers focus on age-related dental issues, managing conditions like Alzheimer’s, and treating patients onsite 1-2 days a week (up to 8 hours total).

Conduct initial oral assessments and interpreting portable radiographs.
Designing daily mouth care plans and overseeing fluoride applications or cleanings.
Performing fillings, treating periodontal disease, extracting loose/decaying teeth, and repairing or relining dentures.
Prescribing necessary antibiotics or analgesics and coordinating with the facility's medical staff regarding polypharmacy (managing dry mouth and side effects of resident medications).
Assessing resident oral health using standardized nursing facility assessment tools to maintain regulatory compliance.
Educating nursing and caregiving staff on how to safely and effectively provide daily oral hygiene for residents with cognitive or physical decline.

Skill - Required / Desired - Amount of Experience
Current unrestricted IN dental license. - Required
Proficiency in general dentistry: exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, and crowns - Required - 2 Years
Experience with geriatric dental care and age-related oral health conditions (dry mouth, root caries, periodontal disease) - Required - 2 Years
Experience complying with CDC & OSHA infection control standards including strict protocols for PPE, handwashing & disposal of single use items. - Required - 2 Years
Must meet OSHA, HIPAA, CMS, ISDH and VA guidelines. - Required - 2 Years
Current CPR certification - Required
Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution - Required
Familiarity with dental implants and prosthodontics preferred - Desired
Prior experience in a VA, military, or federally qualified health center (FQHC) setting - Highly desired
Experience with sedation dentistry or patients with physical/cognitive disabilities. - Highly desired
