Job Description
The client is looking for a junior engineering lab technician to help optimize performance of client-based next-generation servers for its cloud and enterprise customers. As a passionate and dedicated junior lab technician in the Server Performance Group, you will be supporting the server performance architects who will be working to optimize workloads for throughput and latency by identifying opportunities across all parts of system architecture, spanning the application and related frameworks, the Java Virtual Machine, operating system, hypervisor, network and storage drivers, BIOS, CPU core, memory & I/O subsystems. SPG needs a junior technician who is comfortable with server assembly, operation, SW installation and debug/repair of hardware. Candidate would be responsible for racking, stacking, and maintaining servers as well as installing components (e.g., processors, memory, storage, NICs, etc.) on rackmount and benchtop systems.

Team oriented – Candidate is willing to work in a team environment, take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion.
Follow Instructions, SOP’s - Interpret and follow standard operating procedures well.
Computer hardware installation – Must be able to install and remove CPUs, memory, peripherals, and storage media (e.g., SSDs, NVMe, NICs, etc.).
Flashing system firmware stack – Flash firmware on systems via remote management system or programming tool. i.e. BIOS, FPGA FW, VR FW
Good understanding of Linux and Windows Server – Must know how to install various Linux and Windows OS versions. Also, must be familiar with navigating the OS file system, list hardware components and configure network interfaces.
Willingness to learn & grow – Candidate must be able to quickly learn line-of-business applications in client for specific technical tasks.
Special attention to detail – Candidate must have great attention to detail with servicing lab requests and troubleshooting issues.
Managing hardware inventory – tracking, organizing and reclaiming lab hardware regularly
Physical Requirements – Candidate needs to be able to lift 50lbs
Prior experience in server assembly, software installation, server operation, and debug
Strong written and verbal communications skills - Candidate must be able to clearly communicate observations in the lab and ask clarifying questions.
Friendly, helpful, can-do attitude, who works well with others and accepts guidance from leadership
Hands on experience with setting up client and server platforms
Windows and Linux environment software setup and troubleshooting.
Ability to debug, root cause, and resolve system functional issues

Firmware (BIOS, FPGA FW etc.)
Components (Board/CPU/Memory/Storage/NIC etc.)
Network
Basic understanding of Linux networking, installing “NICs” network interface cards, and applying static IP addresses
Preferred Attributes
Ability to setup/configure/debug high speed network infrastructure in a lab environment.
Prior experiencing with automated testing
Experiencing with configuring a server cluster
Experience managing several server systems and end-user support.
Education
Associate’s degree in computer technology and at least 3-5 years of proven experience in related field
