Job Description

Description:

Provides support for and/or assistance with products or engineering processes. Technicians at this level typically perform appropriate tests using existing procedures for process control and failure analysis Provides routine analysis for materials manufacturing process and methods assist with problem identification and resolution root cause analysis corrective action tracking reliability analysis and verification/validation test plan development. Provides guidance on test procedures to engineers and support personnel. Requires knowledge and understanding of lab testing equipment and technologies.

Duties:

Operates and/or calibrates analytical equipment to perform a variety of routine chemical physical or metallurgical tests. Maintains production tooling system and completes shop orders to ensure that tooling is produced for production use. Monitors and participates in the implementation of improvements for cutting stamping welding machining and assembly processes. Maintains the dimensional control of purchased components through measurements with support of electronic three-dimensional or other instruments of similar precision. Creates manufacturing programs for Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines or others of similar nature. Maintains chemical concentrations in paint washers to ensure that painted parts meet desired specifications. Supports the metallurgy lab and assists the failure analysis process by cutting parts ordering supplies maintaining equipment performing paint tests and testing oil samples to ensure compliance to quality standards. Inputs communicates and/or maintains engineering change or other manufacturing information to the appropriate personnel and/or database.

Specific Position Requirements

Retrieve, document via photograph/photomicrograph, section, and prepare (mount and polish) parts for metallurgical examination.
This may include (but is not limited to) hardness testing, case depth evaluation, microstructure evaluation, corrosion cabinet monitoring, and report writing for low to moderately complex evaluations.
This position will take work direction (location of sections needed, testing to be performed, etc.) from the client Materials Engineering staff. You may be asked to present your methods and findings to local groups of quality engineers or operations staff.
Daily – guided by what’s in the lab. Prep work to parts, lab evaluations, reporting on findings.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should be mechanically inclined and accustomed to hands on work
Needs to have knowledge of metals and metal processing
Must have lab experience – (any kind of lab environment will be accepted)
Must be proficient with Microsoft products

WHAT SETS A CANDIDATE APART:
Demonstrated experience with technical report writing
Metallurgy degree is a real bonus

EDUCATION
Degree in Material Science preferred (Chemical Engineer as an alternative)
Recent college graduates will be considered if they have a degree in Material Science or something similar
Or demonstrated experience



Notes:
- First shift position, 7 AM to 3:30 PM. There is some flexibility on the exact shift hours.
- Candidates must be able to be on their feet for long periods of time, and must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- 100% onsite position
