Job Description


The Medical Assistant or Health Assistant II provides clinical and administrative support according to coverage needs in the Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties clinics. 

Clinical duties include, but are not limited to: preparing examination rooms, performing EKGs and waived testing, maintaining patient flow, provide patient instruction regarding preparation of tests/procedures, prepares medical records ensuring that confidentiality is maintained and assisting clinicians during examinations and minor procedures. 

Administrative duties include: assisting patients on the phone and in person, checking patients in and collecting copays, scheduling appointments (including outside tests), performing transcription and other general office responsibilities.

Required – High school diploma or equivalent. A graduate of Medical or Nursing Assistant program. Patient service experience. Certification as Medical Assistant, CPR certification

Preferred - Experience working with an electronic medical record. Bilingual skills.

Additional Job Details:
Serves as liaison between patients and providers to schedule diagnostic tests and specialty consultations at outside organizations (prior authorization as needed) and in-house specialty appointments. Obtains date of service and follows up with visit results. Assists patients with tracking referral status in the electronic system. Works collaboratively with Member Services and Care Coordination departments. Office responsibilities include data entry and coordination of mailings. Collaborates with satellite and specialty offices in processing referrals

Skills & Experience:
Healthcare experience Required (Front desk, medical assistant experience, and the like). Understanding of referral process preferred / Insurance knowledge, patient interaction, specialty practice familiarity. MS Office proficiency. Strong phone communication—works with medical professionals. Ability to complete a daily queue of referrals by end of shift. Customer service experience preferred (e.g., pharmacy, retail)

Schedule: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM (35 hours/week)
