Duties



JOB SUMMARY



Works under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor and Director. The staff occupational therapist, in accordance with the consultant evaluation findings and the physician’s referral, plans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team.





PRIMARY JOB DUTIES



Provides occupational therapy services in inpatient and outpatient settings during assigned shift during department operating hours, including assignment in rotation of weekend and holiday coverage.
On physician’s referral, evaluates patients, develops specific treatment plans and goals, administers procedures and modalities specific to the learning needs and age of the patient, and plans for discharge utilizing appropriate Occupational Therapy techniques.
Acts as a case manager for assigned patients.
Prepares and maintains accurate and current patient records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Re evaluates and revises patient’s treatment plan on a regular basis, with approval of physician as necessary.
Provides patient, family/caregivers with age appropriate instruction regarding therapy procedures and home program, and provides additional instruction as indicated.
Instructs the patient and family/caregiver in care and use of assistive and adaptive equipment.
Communicates with rehabilitation team members, family, physicians and third party payers regarding patient progress and program changes as appropriate.
Attends and/or participates inter/intradepartmental in services and meetings as required and appropriate.
Participates in short and long term program development, including participation on committees as requested.
Participates in student intern and/or volunteer program as appropriate.
Provides supervision to occupational therapist assistant.
Maintains clean, safe and orderly treatment areas and equipment. Reports to supervisor any problems or suggestions regarding safety in the workplace.
Assists with orientation and supervision of other health care professionals as appropriate.
Establishes and maintains effective communication with physicians, coworkers, patients and other hospital personnel.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in service meetings, and workshops within assigned specialty areas.
Performs other duties as assigned.



Skills



Experience:



One year experience in acute hospital or outpatient hand clinic preferred, however, will consider new graduates.



Skills:



Good basic clinical skills in occupational therapy evaluation and treatment.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.



Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, patient’s families/caregivers, physicians, and coworkers.

Other:



Knowledge of existing laws and regulations governing the practice of Occupational Therapy.



Education



Minimum bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
Licensure: Current California Occupational Therapy license is required.
NBCOT Certification is required. CHT, Physical Agent Modalities (PAM ), Advanced Practitioner certification, or Advanced Practitioner certification in Hands preferred.
Occupational Therapy license applicant may be considered.
Current AHA or equivalent BLS certification





Minimum 2 years of hospital (acute) experience required



License Primary Source Verification
Current BLS (that meets client compliance requirements)
NBCOT Certification
