Purpose of Position/Summary:Assists pharmacists with medication preparation, medication repackaging, automated dispensing system management, inventory control, and Performance Improvement projects. Providing our patients with the right medication at the right time is a major goal of the pharmacy and plays an important part in the patient's recoveryEssential Duties/Responsibilities:Prepares medications according to physician orders and refill requests from nursing staff.Perform monthly inspections of medication storage areas, checking medication expiration dates and restocking as necessary.Ability to correctly repackage unit dose medications. Assuring each package contains the correct strength, lot number, expiration date; while following correct unit dose procedures.Prepare medications and supplies for dispensing, including:Proper selection of medication and quantity for MedSelect restockingProper labeling of Patient Specific medicationsPreparing prescriptions for therapeutic leaves and dischargesEnsuring medication security during delivery and restocking of medications on nursing units.Return unused medications from the nursing units to the pharmacy.Efficient inventory management, including procurement, annual inventory, and the processing of invoices.Prepare inventories, order drugs and supplies from the storeroom, receive drugs and stock shelves in various pharmacy locations.Ensuring medication inventory is stocked and rotated appropriately.Perform electronic adjudication of prescriptions claims.Assist other pharmacy staff and rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy.Performs other duties as assignedUses technology for charting electronic information.Job Requirements:Must be licensed as a pharmacy technician in the St of IN or be enrolled in a technician training program and possess a technician-in-training permit.Must obtain CPR and Bridge Building certification, demonstrate ability to perform techniques, and maintain certification throughout employment.Must have abilities and thorough knowledge base, understanding and level of proficiency to assure adherence to the procedures, policies and objectives of the pharmacy department as well as facility-wide.Knowledge of the computerized pharmacy medication ordering system and the automated medication dispensing systems.Knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminologyKnowledge of medications and dosage measurementsAbility to use various equipment including computers and pharmaceutical repackaging equipment.Ability to work safely and have the willingness to comply with special safety and health precautions.Ability to maintain effective working relationships.Ability to lift, stand for extended periods of time as required, and deliver medications to meet standard and emergent patient care requirements according to client policies and procedures.Ability to maintain records and responsibility for controlled substances.Ability to ensure inventory control of drugs and supplies.Ability to rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy.Screen telephone calls and connect to appropriate individuals.Skill - Required / Desired - Amount of ExperienceLicensed as a pharmacy technician in the St of IN. - RequiredAbility to correctly prepare medications according to physician orders. - Required - 1 YearsAbility to ensure proper labeling of patient-specific medications. - Required - 1 YearsAbility to rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy and assist other pharmacy staff as needed. - Required - 1 YearsAbility to maintain effective working relationships with pharmacy staff, patients, and hospital staff. - Required -Ability to lift, stand for extended periods of time as required, and deliver medications to meet standard and emergent patient care requirements. - RequiredAbility to maintain patient confidentiality and ensure medication security. - RequiredMust be able to perform CPR and Bridge Building physical interventions (training provided). - RequiredKnowledge of computerized pharmacy medication ordering systems and automated medication dispensing systems. - Nice to have - 1 YearsKnowledge of repackaging unit dose medications while ensuring accuracy (strength, lot number, expiration date). - Nice to have - 1 YearsPrior experience as a pharmacy technician. - Not Required - 1 YearsSupervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:Does not have supervisory responsibilities.Difficulty of Work:The work involves a variety of moderately complex tasks and procedures.Responsibility:Incumbent is responsible for a variety of drug dispensing and record keeping functions performed in accordance with standardized procedures. Incumbent works independently although all drugs are under supervision of a registered pharmacist. Incumbent uses judgement in rotating, ordering, and maintaining appropriate stock levels.Personal Work Relationships:Contact with pharmacy staff, patients, and other hospital staff for the purpose of dispensing proper medication to patients. Patient confidentiality MUST be maintained. Respect and appropriate interactions with patients is required.Physical Effort:Ability to lift, stand for extended periods of time as required, and deliver medications to meet standard and emergent patient care requirements according to client policies and procedures. Must be able to perform Bridge Building physical interventions and CPR.Working Conditions:Works in a pharmacy setting in a psychiatric hospital. At times, the incumbent may be required to work different areas on grounds. Potential for physical injury related to patient behavior and management of that behavior.Notes:Position is on-site, Monday through Friday, shifts are 9a-5p or 7:30a-3:30p.
