Description:

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:

The client employs a multi-tiered architecture in its core business systems. The Business application tier utilizes MicroFocus Visual COBOL running under IIS on MS Windows 2022 servers. This assignment will support development of new business functions and troubleshooting, modification, and enhancement of existing functions in this environment within the existing client application framework. Projects may include business logic supporting on-line systems, batch programming, data extraction, and reports involving all client business areas. This engineer will work closely and will be involved with both the UI tiers which are MS .NET applications (VB.NET, C#.NET) and the database tiers in both SQL
and ORACLE. production trouble shooting support will be expected so some level of production support experience is required. This contractor will be expected to work with minimal supervision, will be in direct contact with business area specialists, develop technical approaches and designs, code, test, and support these functions. Communications skills must be excellent.

DAILY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analyze the client, web service, and batch business applications
Take the lead in analyzing and trouble-shooting assigned system problems
Propose solutions
Code, test, promote, and interact with impacted users ensuring that solution meets
Requirements.
Provide daily and weekly status to the development manager.

Required Skills (rank in order of Importance):

COBOL development with MICROFOCUS Visual COBOLusing Visual Studio 2019/2022 in Windows Server 2022 under IIS.
MICROFOCUS Visual COBOL V7, V9, or higher strongly preferred
Accessing Oracle and MS SQL Server enterprise databases from within the programming (COBOL) platform.
Crafting SQL statements to support required system functionality

Preferred Skills (rank in order of Importance):

Visual Studio 2019 and higher – Debugging
IIS configuration/setup
Microsoft Team Foundation Server
Microsoft C# .NET
Application programming against RDBMS (Oracle, SQL).
SQL for Oracle DB.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Prefer bachelor’s degree in information technology related discipline with 8 years of experience or minimum 10 years related experience.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

Not required but ms technical certifications will be factored in the selection process.
Microfocus certifications are a significant advantage

Notes:

Initially 100% on-site for orientation and system familiarization. Hybrid is possible at client's discretion.
