Psychiatrist

A Day in the Life: Deliver Psychiatric Care and Education

Prescribes and administers psychiatric care to patients including completing assessments, prescribing medications, and providing patient/family education to support recovery and informed decision-making. Lead Treatment Planning and Team Collaboration
Serves in a leadership capacity on treatment teams and take an active role in providing appropriate clinical direction in the development of individual treatment plans to ensure coordinated care.
Collaborates with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress to foster interdisciplinary alignment. Document and Diagnose Patient Conditions
Gathers and maintains patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients, relatives, or other professionals to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Analyzes and evaluates patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder to guide appropriate interventions. Maintain Professional Standards and Governance
Completes continuing educational opportunities to improve the field of medicine and comply with the medical-professional staff bylaws, rules, and regulations to uphold clinical excellence.
Serves on selected standing hospital committees and demonstrate active participation, providing input within areas of competence to support institutional governance. Board-Certified or Board-Eligible General Psychiatry MD/DO and subspecialty board certification if applicable.
Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in IN as issued by the IN Professional Licensing Agency.
Completion of an accredited residency training program in Psychiatry or subspecialty training if applicable. Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on client needs. Difficulty of Work: Your work will require an advanced level of professional and technical knowledge and wide array of clinical and interpersonal skills commensurate with a licensed doctoral level professional required generating, interpreting, and synthesizing complex data both at the individual and the facility level. Program development responsibilities are considerable and require a sophisticated and mature individual with knowledge of current theoretical models which constitute the highest standard of practice models for the treatment of individuals diagnosed with persistent and severe mental illness.

Responsibility:
The Psychiatrist provides objectives of and directs psychiatric services within the boundaries of general policies of the institution. The determination of work methods is reserved to the individual who relies upon advanced psychiatric training, professional judgment and administrative experiences. You will review recommendations, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment plans for individual patients; determines need for and implements program evaluation and program planning for psychiatric department. This position is the final authority for patient psychiatric evaluations. You will make a major contribution through the application of client guidelines and interpretation of client-wide policies; defines overall treatment programs as client administrator. You will also plan and interpret findings of various research programs that can affect the overall policies of the client.

Skill - Required / Desired - Amount of Experience
Board certified in general psychiatry MD or DO. - Required
Active, unencumbered license to practice psychiatry in IN. - Required
Completion of an accredited residency training program in Psychiatry - Required
Prior exp. collaborating with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, etc. discussing treatment plans and progress. - Required - 3 Years
Prior exp. serving in a leadership role on treatment teams, providing appropriate clinical direction in development of individual treatment plans. - Required - 3 Years
Prior exp. analyzing and evaluating patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder. - Required - 3 Years
Prior experience in de-escalation techniques and dealing with high-pressure situations. - Required - 3 Years
CPR certification. - Required -
Prior experience in a state hospital setting - Highly desired
Prior experience with Cerner EMR. - Desired

Personal Work Relationships:
The Psychiatrist will work with patients to diagnose and create treatment plans. This position will work with other disciplinary areas to determine the best course of treatment for the patient. This role will oversee students and will be supporting them with their cases.
Residents or incarcerated individuals may have family, friends, community partners and/or other interested parties come to the facility requesting information or to visit with the person according to policies and procedures.
A high level of judgement and effective communication is required during times of contact with residents or incarcerated individuals.
Partnership with relevant public agencies, federal, state & local governments and/or community leaders may be required.
This individual will be expected to partner with client personnel and related stakeholders working towards completion of assigned functions. Exceptional customer service is provided to client partners and/or the general public.
This position will communicate directly with children and families on a regular basis. Physical Effort:
This role performs work in an environment where sitting for extended periods of time could be expected.
This role requires the ability to run short distances to provide immediate care, protection, or attention to patients or incarcerated individuals.
This role requires the ability to lift, carry, protect or care for children in tense, uncomfortable situations.
This role requires keen observational and hearing skills to stay alert for possible dangerous situations. Working Conditions:
This role requires a high level of attention and safety due to work activities having risk of injury or loss of life.

This role performs work in a state operated hospital facility.

Notes:
Position is on-site 40 hrs/wk, Monday through Friday. There is some flexibility with the schedule.
