Job Description


POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Safety Engineer works closely with Health and Safety staff and the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) trades to create safety protocols. Procedures and special assignments.

CORE DUTIES:

Work closely with M&O management staff to recognize, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions, behaviors, and work practices.
Recommend appropriate containment and corrective actions for hazard control design, methods, procedures, and processes for all machines used in M&O.
Develop draft safety procedures including Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space, Machine Guarding, Hazardous Waste Management, Mechanical Room Management, etc.
Evaluate all system safety requirements and develop quality control system for M&O management
Conduct health and safety surveys, quantitative and qualitative exposure/risk assessments, and data analyses; ability to provide recommendations for exposure/risk control
Requires high level of professionalism and problem-solving:
Demonstrate emotional intelligence and professionalism, especially in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Safety Engineering required,
Experience in safety engineering, process safety, systems safety, or related areas preferred,
Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally sitting, performing desk-based computer tasks.
Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-50 pounds.
Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort and file paperwork or parts, operate foot and/or hand controls, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must wear personal protective equipment as defined/required by job assignments.
May require occasional work on weekends and evenings
May involve long hours of standing and sustained communications/dialogue.
May work in mechanical equipment rooms, kitchens, waste management areas, construction sites, indoor and outdoor storage areas,

Subject to and expected to comply with all applicable client policies and procedures, including but not limited to the personnel policies and other policies found in the client’s Administrative Guide.
