Position Summary

The Senior Microsoft Certified SharePoint Engineer is responsible for leading the architecture, migration, and modernization of enterprise SharePoint environments, with a primary focus on migrating SharePoint On-Premises platforms to SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365). This role serves as a technical authority, providing strategic guidance, hands-on leadership, and best-practice governance to ensure secure, scalable, and user-centric cloud solutions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


SharePoint Architecture & Technical Leadership

Serve as the technical lead and subject-matter expert for SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 collaboration solutions.

Design target-state SharePoint Online architectures aligned with Microsoft best practices and organizational standards.

Define information architecture, governance models, permission strategies, and lifecycle management frameworks.


Migration Strategy & Delivery

Lead client’s enterprise-scale migration from SharePoint 2010/2013/2016/2019 to SharePoint Online.

Conduct comprehensive assessments of legacy environments, including custom solutions, workflows, forms, and integrations.

Develop migration roadmaps, risk mitigation strategies, and execution plans.

Recommend, Oversee and Execute migrations using tools from past successful migrations.

Lead the creation of an MS 365 collaboration governance plan considering the key business goals and processes

Provide guidance and expertise on the following:

Best practices for settings in services, ensuring settings allow optimal interactions between services such as groups, SharePoint and Teams

Level of access to grant users in groups, SharePoint and Teams

Compliance settings for MS 365 groups, Teams and SharePoint collaboration

Communications governance options for collaboration scenarios

Organization and lifecycle governance policies and settings, including for group and team creation, naming, expiration and archiving

Content lifecycle governance policies and settings, ensuring compliance with the client policies

Ensuring content is organized through automated policies to prevent content sprawl

Advice on best practices for organizational change management and training

Support the team in aligning MS 365 rollout with ZTA activities

Review, and make suggested best-practices changes to the client MS 365 rollout roadmap


Governance, Security & Compliance

Establish and enforce SharePoint Online governance standards, including site provisioning, naming conventions, permissions, and retention policies.

Collaborate with security and compliance teams to implement Microsoft 365 controls such as retention labels, DLP, and access governance.

Ensure solutions comply with organizational, legal, and regulatory requirements.


Automation & Optimization

Optimize SharePoint Online performance, search, and usability using modern SharePoint design principles.

Leverage Power Platform capabilities (Power Automate, Power Apps) to replace or enhance legacy functionality.


Stakeholder Engagement & Mentorship

Act as a trusted technical advisor to business stakeholders, project managers, and leadership.

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior SharePoint engineers and administrators.

Produce architectural documentation, technical standards, and operational runbooks.


Required Qualifications

Microsoft certification in SharePoint or Microsoft 365 (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or Teamwork Administrator Associate).

Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience with SharePoint, including enterprise-scale environments.

Proven experience leading multiple SharePoint On-Premises to SharePoint Online migrations.

Expert knowledge of SharePoint Online architecture, modern sites, hub sites, permissions, and search.

Strong experience with PowerShell, including PnP PowerShell.

In-depth understanding of Microsoft 365 integration points, including Teams, OneDrive, and Azure Active Directory.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing and supporting hybrid SharePoint environments.

Strong knowledge of Power Platform solutions and workflow modernization.

Familiarity with Microsoft Purview compliance and information protection features.

Experience working in large enterprise or regulated environments.
