SolarWinds Observability Administrator

Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive and skilled SolarWinds Observability Administrator to manage and enhance our monitoring environment using SolarWinds Orion and complementary tools. The ideal candidate will ensure reliable system visibility, rapid issue detection, and effective response coordination across our IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
1. Node & Access Management
o Add, modify, and decommission nodes in Orion.
o Create and manage user IDs, access rights, and permission levels.

2. Monitoring Configuration & Maintenance
o Design and maintain meaningful views, dashboards, reports, and alerts tailored to user and departmental needs.
o Create, update, and manage application templates for effective monitoring.

3. Daily System Health & Preventative Maintenance
o Perform daily health checks of the Orion environment (polling, data flow, storage).
o Schedule and perform system reboots or failovers required for patching or outages.

4. Incident & Ticket Management
o Handle incoming ServiceNow tickets related to monitoring issues.
o Open vendor support cases (“factory tickets”) as needed.
o Collaborate with networking and other IT teams to resolve incidents promptly.

5. Stakeholder Engagement
o Attend Teams meetings with department IT staff to promote observability services.
o Provide regular status updates and maintain clear communication about system health.

Required Qualifications
Technical Expertise
o Hands-on experience with SolarWinds Orion and SolarWinds Observability components (NPM, SAM, etc.).
o Strong understanding of network, server, and application monitoring principles.
o Proficiency in alert configuration, report/dashboard design, and template management.

Operational Skills
o Proven ability to perform daily system health checks and manage patching/failover activities.
o ServiceNow experience or comparable ticketing systems, with the aptitude to escalate issues appropriately.

Collaboration & Communication
o Excellent interpersonal skills; able to liaise with technical and non-technical teams.
o Able to document processes, facilitate knowledge sharing, and train others where needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Certifications such as SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) or experience with SolarWinds training materials.
Familiarity with hybrid-cloud infrastructure and self-hosted versus SaaS observability deployments.
Experience with network protocols (SNMP, WMI, API) and database health monitoring.

SolarWinds Observability Trainee Duties
Add and modify nodes in Orion
Create user IDs for Orion access
Modify user rights as required
Manage requests and\or issues with Orion as reported
Create meaningful views and dashboards based on user preferences
Create and modify alerts as required
Create and modify reports as required
Facilitate the required reboots and fail overs required for patching or an outage
Maintain regular communication with Orion users on general Orion status
Create and modify application templates as required
Complete daily health checks
Attend Teams meetings with departments IT staff to discuss how to leverage Orion services in their environment
Open and manage tickets with the factory as needed
Collaborate with network team to address issues
Resolve assigned ServiceNow tickets.
