Job Description


SPEECH PATHOLOGIST


JOB SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of Speech Therapy Supervisor. Assesses referred patient.
Plans and administers Speech Therapy intervention plan, schedules treatments, records treatment information, instructs students to assist in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients, provides instruction to patient, family and Hospital staff.
Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the candidate unit.

Performs other duties as assigned.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

1. Assesses patients, plans and administers Care Plan compatible with physician, patient and family goals.
2. Provides high quality and safe patient care.
3. Completes all necessary documentation related to patient treatment.
4. Assists in efficient and effective return of patient to the highest degree of independence possible.
5. Maintains a cost-effective treatment plan.
6. Assists in orientation of new employees and volunteers.
7. Ensures that person who work for, are serviced by, or associated with, the Hospital receive the highest degree of courtesy possible.
8. Adheres to established Hospital safety standards.
9. Ensures department objectives are met.
10. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the candidate unit.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

1. Education: California Speech Therapy license required
2. Licensure: Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards require Certificate of Clinical Competence required.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Fine motor skills in order for employee to manipulate equipment a manually mobilize patient. Normal gross motor skills.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact appropriately with patient and employee population under ten conditions and maintain composure. Able to communicate effectively in all situations.
Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to complete multiple patient evaluations, develop, update and execute treatment plans. Problem solving and independent thinking requires.
Essential Sensory Requirements: Must be able to hear, see, verbally communicate, and have tactile
Performance Improvement: Assumes active role in the department’s Continuous Performance Improvement Program. Develops, implements and assesses Continuous Performance Improvement effort as assigned.
Certification: BLS - AHA, CA SLP (Speech-Language Pathologist) License
Education: Graduation from an accredited speech therapy program




Notes:
Setting; Inpatient hospital, comfortable with Modified barium swallows and adult patients ranging from MedSurg, ICU to strokes.
