Job Description

Position is Hybrid

Description:

The client is looking for a Database Administrator - Consultant

Scope of the Project:
The client supports in the neighborhood of 300 plus SQL Server databases and are in the process of migrating those databases from SQL Server 2019 to SQL Server 2022. In addition, the client is implementing high availability solutions on a number of the systems supported by these databases and increasing our use of Reporting Services and Analysis Services implemented in a number of support systems such as SharePoint, MS System Center, Team Foundation Server, and others. The client is also facing increasing security concerns around these assets.

In addition, this position will supplement our current SQL DBA force with production support activities such as OS updates, security updates, etc., and will require beyond normal business hours activities. This position will be required to support the Oracle DBA team as needed, create reports in SSRS and Power BI, and utilize ERwin in managing logical and physical data models, data dictionaries, and model documentation.

Candidate will be working in a team environment consisting of 6 database engineers and administrators and working directly with application architect and developers, business analysts, and server support team. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required.

DAILY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

SQL Server
Setup and maintain data replication and mirroring
Configure maintenance automation
Backup and Recovery
Troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
SQL Server monitoring
Install and configure new SQL Servers
Develop and support data warehouse and cubes through SQL Server Analysis Services
Migrate SQL Server databases to SQL Server 2022
Develop Reports using SSRS
Support SSIS packages
Develop database design, development, and management standards
Consult with developers regarding database design.
Implement and support 3rd party databases for vendor supplied applications

Oracle 19 familiarity: Desired
Analyze, develop, and support stored procedures and SQL.

Business Intelligence
Design, develop, and manage dashboards and reports through a BI solution

Data Modeling – as assigned
Designing, developing, and maintaining logical and physical data models using ERwin Data Modeler
Ensuring database designs support scalability, integrity, and performance requirements.
Collaborating with data architects, developers, and business analysts to translate business requirements into data models.
Modeling activities are required in Oracle databases and may be required for MS SQL databases

Required Skills (Rank in Order of Importance):
5+ years of experience with SQL Server 2019 and 2022
5+ years of experience with SQL Server Reporting Services
5+ years of experience with SQL Server Analysis Services
5+ years of experience with SQL Reports Designer
5+ years of experience with BI tools and design
5+ years of experience as an SQL Database Administrator
2+ years of experience working with State Government Agencies

Preferred Skills (Rank in Order of Importance):
Data Domain Boost (DD Boost) to support backup and restore operations for SQL Servers
Experience with Oracle 19 Database Operations
Experience with Oracle Grid Control
Experience with ERwin Data Modeler

Required Education:
BA in Computer Science, Data Science, or closely related field.

Notes:
Position is Hybrid, however remote capability is very limited and the candidate should expect to be onsite five days a week. Remote days are based off of project needs and client discretion.
Work Schedule: Weekend Hours and On Call Rotation is to be expected for project needs per the discretion of the client .
