Summer School Teacher - Part-timePurpose of Position/Summary:The teaching position is a summer position at the Center to keep structure in the children’s day and help them to maintain the progress made during the regular school year. The position is responsible for planning, coordinating and facilitating a summer school program for 8 weeks during the summer months. This position reports directly to the Clinical Director.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:Responsible for ongoing compliance with the client policies and procedures.Follows the directives of the Clinical DirectorCompletes daily teaching plans to facilitate smooth operation of the school day.Teaches half day of school for 8 weeks during the summer months using hands on activities to support the academic progress made during the school year and reinforce life skills.Develops an overall summer school plan that includes, themes, speakers, field trips, etc prior to the start of the summer school classrooms convening.Plans, coordinates and conducts a variety of individual and group activities within the school day to support the growth of each child.Responsible for documenting on the school progress report weekly for the childs medical record with notes reflective of the children’s response to the programCompletes a 2 day orientation to be arranged by the Clinical Director.Meets weekly with the Clinical Director or more often as needed to make sure plans are in place, help is secured for special programs and resources are available to carry the program out.Facilitates teamwork among other departments working closely with Nursing Services who provides support staff in the school setting.Evaluates academic skillsJob Requirements:Strongly collaborative leadership skillsAbility to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise mannerOrganizational ability to plan, form and execute programs and policiesAbility to self direct initiate change as neededEffective problem solving and analytical skillsMinimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with special education endorsementSkill - Required / DesiredMinimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with special education endorsement - RequiredOrganizational ability to plan, form and execute programs and policies - RequiredAbility to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner - RequiredAbility to successfully collaborate with hospital staff, therapists and social workers. - RequiredPrior experience with therapeutic teaching methods. - Highly desiredFamiliarity with child psychology, trauma-informed practices, and psychiatric conditions. - Highly desiredExperience in working with children who may exhibit challenging behaviors. - Highly desiredCPR certification. - Highly desiredSupervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:NoneDifficulty of Work:Incumbent will need to maintain a safe, educational environment for all children.Responsibility:Personal Work Relationships:Will need to be collaborative with all other disciplines working with the team.Physical Effort:Lots of moving around to accommodate each child’s needs in the classroom.Working Conditions:Incumbent will be in classroom setting for the most part and will always have Center staff there for support. There will be some field trips where this position will be working with other Center staff to monitor/supervise children off grounds.Notes:Position is part-time8am – 12noon up to 20 hours/wk.
