R&D Specialist level IThe Trade Compliance Classification Specialist will support the client organization with overall compliance with U.S. laws and regulations governing both export and import classifications; and related company policies and procedures. This position requires 3-5+ years of trade compliance Classification experience, and will support the Trade Compliance department in other Trade related duties as required. The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic and proactive in email and verbal communications with Internal client associates. The candidate should be able to meet/exceed internal customer expectations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Support Regional/BU International Trade Compliance Representatives (ITCRs) by providing remote guidance and compliance support regarding HTS, Schedule B and ECCN Classifications.Review product descriptions, technical drawings, and material specifications to assign accurate HTS/HTSUS and Schedule B codesPrioritize Urgent incoming Classification requests from ITCRs, requesting additional information or supporting documentation as neededInterpret Customs rulings, explanatory notes, and legal regulations to ensure full adherence to import and export control lawsUpdate Product Database Spreadsheet with new/updated ClassificationsWork with ERP team to update product master databaseSupport the development, implementation and maintenance of the client Trade Compliance classification program.Required Education:Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or Transportation, International Trade or related field preferred. Applicable job experience may be substituted in lieu of education.Licensed Customs Broker, preferred but not a mustRequired Length & Type of Experience:A minimum of 3-5 years of international trade compliance experience in classificationFirst-hand experience completing US HTS/schedule B/ECCN classificationComprehensive working knowledge of Gov. agencies; BIS, CBP and OFACKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge and use of the GRI’sExtensive knowledge of the US Harmonized Tariff ScheduleUse of section and chapter notesAbility to write a defendable classification rationaleExtensive knowledge of the BIS Export Administration Regulations (EAR)Comfortable reviewing, manipulating, and auditing data in Google Sheets/ExcelExperience working with Global Trade Management toolKnowledge of PowerBI and reportingGENERAL SUMMARY:The primary focus of this position is to facilitate global trade and help ensure compliance with customs regimes and various other agency regulations. The Trade Compliance Senior Analyst must exhibit strong research and analytical skills, often being asked to interpret import and export regulations. This position typically requires 5+ years of experience in trade compliance or an importer/exporter environment, with a deep understanding of complex regulations (like EAR and OFAC) and often requires cross-functional leadership.Essential Functions/Responsibilities:Provide remote trade compliance guidance and import/export transaction support to Regional ITCRs across multiple business functions.Serve as point of contact for internal trade compliance questions from logistics, procurement, and project teams.Act as subject matter expert for U.S. trade compliance (Customs, Import/Export, Export Controls)Perform and validate HTS classification and country of origin determinations for all relevant equipment and products.Ensure compliant import and export transactions in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other applicable authoritiesSupport duty, tax, and fee calculations, including preferential trade programs where applicableManage, oversee and evaluate customs brokers and service providers in the U.SPerform Export Control and Dual Use compliance, including license determinations where applicable.Perform compliance review of import, export documentation for international shipmentsSupporting other Compliance Department activities as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:Strong analytical and database management skillsExcellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to interact effectively at all levelsProven organizational and management skillsKnowledgeable on import requirements, Code of Federal Regulations Title 19, ACE, HTS classification, and Participating Government Agencies regulations.Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in related discipline or equivalent experience and/or a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in international operations, import or exports, and/or customs brokerage.
