Waste and Emergency Response Technician “meets conditions”
CORE DUTIES:
Daily waste operations: Oversee waste collection, disposal, and donation/reuse across R&DE buildings, ensuring compliance with the client's policies and state regulations. Assist with physical handling of items and determine proper disposal including regulated waste and reusable materials. This position will require direct handling of waste material, waste bins and occasional handling of e-waste, universal waste and hazardous waste. Knowledge of each is preferred.
Service coordination and donations: Monitor and coordinate waste services with campus partners, address operational issues, identify proper waste streams, and work with community groups to facilitate donations of reusable items. Utilize technology tools to right-size waste services and understand waste issues that need to be addressed.
Compliance and stakeholder engagement: Collaborate with custodial teams, building managers, residents, and other departments to maintain safe, efficient, and compliant waste operations. Ensure all waste management activities comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including California’s waste-related laws.
Provide oversight and support to campus partners to assure emergency response inventory management program goals are met.
Assuring emergency response inventory items are properly received, logged, repackaged, and distributed to storage areas as needed.
Assisting with the development of inventory tracking procedures.
Program Support: Provide operational support for other MCP Sustainability and Utilities programs, including water and energy reduction initiatives and the green cleaning program.
Professionalism and problem-solving: Demonstrate emotional intelligence and professionalism, especially in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations.
Requirements:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally sitting, performing desk-based computer tasks.
Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-50 pounds.
Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort and file paperwork or parts, operate foot and/or hand controls, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.
Ability to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must wear personal protective equipment as defined/required by job assignments.
May require occasional work on weekends and evenings, including the need to take work-related calls to address waste issues during off hours.
May involve long hours of standing and sustained communications/dialogue.
May work in mechanical equipment rooms, kitchens, waste management areas, construction sites, indoor and outdoor storage areas
