About the role
We are establishing a new turnkey well construction business line delivering geothermal wells for customers outside our traditional market — data center developers, private equity–backed platforms, and utilities. Under a turnkey contract we take single-point responsibility for delivering a completed well at a fixed price.
The Wellsite HSE Supervisor provides continuous HSE presence on location. Two supervisors per active location give round-the-clock coverage, which means a substantial share of the work is performed on night shift as the only HSE presence on site. The role holds full stop-work authority and is expected to use it.
This position reports to the Project Manager.
Geothermal operations carry hazards that are not fully covered by a conventional oil and gas drilling HSE program: high-temperature returns, steam and flashing, geothermal H2S, and hard-rock-specific risks. Candidates from mining, geothermal or other hard rock site HSE backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
A further distinction: our customers have no internal drilling capability. Their representatives will visit active locations with no prior rig experience, and this role manages their orientation, escort and site conduct.

Position summary
The Wellsite HSE Supervisor is the on-site HSE authority at an assigned drilling location. The role verifies that work is performed safely and in compliance with company, customer and regulatory requirements, intervenes when it is not, and maintains emergency response readiness. The work is verification in the field rather than administration from an office, and much of it is carried out alone, at night, with limited immediate support.

Key responsibilities

Field HSE presence and intervention
Maintain continuous HSE presence on location during operations, including night shift.
Hold and exercise stop-work authority without hesitation whenever conditions warrant, irrespective of cost or schedule consequence and irrespective of who is affected.
Conduct job safety observations and behavioral interventions across all crews on site, including drilling contractor and service company personnel.
Verify pre-job safety analysis, permit to work, energy isolation and confined space controls before work proceeds.
Monitor and verify controls for geothermal-specific hazards, including high-temperature returns, steam and flashing, H2S, and hard-rock drilling risks.
Escalate unresolved HSE concerns to HSE Lead, using the independent reporting line where the matter cannot be resolved on location.

Compliance and contractor verification
Verify drilling contractor and service company compliance with company, customer and regulatory HSE requirements on location.
Confirm personnel competency, certification and training records for personnel arriving on site.
Verify equipment inspection and certification status, including lifting equipment, pressure equipment and gas detection.
Conduct and document site HSE inspections and audits on the agreed cadence.
Monitor environmental compliance on location, including containment, spill prevention, waste handling and water management.
Check in and check out drivers delivering equipment, materials and other items to the location, verifying site access, orientation status and delivery documentation as required.
Serve as backup spotter for trucks staging deliveries on location, coordinating with the Wellsite Supervisor and affected crews to maintain safe traffic flow, exclusion zones and pedestrian separation.

Emergency response readiness
Maintain emergency response readiness at the location, including muster arrangements, evacuation routes and medevac plans.
Plan, run and document emergency drills, including H2S, well control, fire, medical and evacuation scenarios.
Verify that emergency equipment is present, inspected and functional, including gas detection, breathing apparatus, fire suppression and first aid provision.
Maintain current knowledge of local emergency services, medevac providers and receiving facilities for each assigned location.
Act as the on-site coordination point during an emergency until relieved.

Incident reporting and investigation
Report incidents, near misses and hazard observations promptly and accurately, without filtering for how the information will be received.
Conduct first-line incident investigation and support formal investigations led by the HSE Lead.
Participate in root cause analysis and verify that corrective actions are implemented and effective, rather than closed on commitment alone.
Maintain accurate and contemporaneous HSE records for the location.
Identify trends and repeat findings on location and raise them to the HSE Lead.

Training, orientation and customer interface
Deliver site orientation and induction for all personnel arriving on location.
Facilitate the HSE portion of pre-tour safety meetings, including presentation of relevant industry safety alerts, and lead or support pre-job safety meetings and toolbox talks.
Provide orientation, escort and supervision for customer representatives and visitors, including individuals with no prior oilfield experience.
Explain hazards, controls and site requirements clearly to non-technical audiences, and enforce site requirements consistently regardless of a visitor's seniority.
Support the Wellsite Supervisor and I&S Coordinator on HSE matters relating to third-party vendor performance.

Essential Requirements:
Seven or more years in wellsite or field HSE with continuous site presence, as distinct from periodic site visits from an office base.
Formal HSE qualification — NEBOSH, CSP, ASP, CHST, OSHA 30 or equivalent.
Formal incident investigation and root cause analysis training.
Current H2S and emergency response certification.
Demonstrated experience personally exercising stop-work authority on a live operation.
Demonstrated ability to work as the sole HSE presence on a location, including night shift, with limited immediate support.
Working knowledge of drilling operations sufficient to recognize an unsafe condition before it is pointed out.
Experience verifying contractor and third-party HSE compliance on site.
Ability to communicate clearly with individuals who have no oilfield background.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet company motor vehicle record requirements.
Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including applicable first aid, site access and medical requirements.
Ability to pass and maintain the medical and fitness-for-duty requirements for remote field work.

Industry Background/Experience
Geothermal, high-temperature or steam operations HSE experience.
Mining, mineral exploration or other hard rock site HSE experience.
Dual medic qualification — EMT, paramedic or remote medical technician — for remote locations.
Experience as the only HSE presence on a location over an extended period.
Experience supporting non-industry visitors on active industrial sites.
Experience contributing to the build of an HSE management system rather than administering an established one.
